GU Professor Becomes First Faculty Member Commissioned as IAF Flying Officer

Gauhati University marked a milestone as Dr Hemen Kumar Kalita, Assistant Professor of Physics, was commissioned as a Flying Officer in the Indian Air Force. He is the first serving GU faculty member to receive an IAF commission.

Dr Kalita completed pre-commission training with an ‘A’ grade, and the pipping ceremony was held at Air Force Station Tambaram on December 26, 2025. He also becomes GU’s first Associate NCC Officer of the Air Force Wing to hold the rank, while continuing his academic duties.
