Eviction Drive Launched to Clear Encroachments in Doboka Reserved Forest

A large-scale eviction drive began in Doboka under Hojai district to remove illegal encroachments from the Jamuna Maudanga Reserved Forest. The administration aims to reclaim nearly 6,000 bighas of forest land occupied by about 1,250 families.

Officials said 152 families with cases pending before the Gauhati High Court have been temporarily excluded, while eviction proceedings are underway against the remaining families. Heavy security has been deployed, including personnel from the Assam Police and the Central Reserve Police Force, along with over 50 JCB machines.

Special Chief Secretary (Forest) M K Yadav reached the site to oversee the operation. While some political groups demanded rehabilitation for affected families, the administration maintained the drive is strictly legal and aimed at protecting reserved forest land.
