Eviction Drive Resumes in Dhubri for Proposed Thermal Power Project

Eviction drives linked to Assam’s proposed 3,400 MW thermal power project resumed in villages of Dhubri’s Bilasipara subdivision on Tuesday under tight security. The latest phase covered Charuabakhra, Santoshpur and Chirakuta, on land transferred to APDCL, with about 3,500 bighas already cleared in earlier phases.
Affected families claimed they are lawful pattadars and alleged lack of due process and insufficient time for relocation, despite recent allotment of alternative land. While stating they are not against development, residents demanded proper rehabilitation and adherence to legal norms. The administration maintained the evictions are lawful and part of Assam’s long-term energy expansion plan.
