HC Ban Halts Magh Bihu Community Fishing in Kaziranga Wetlands

Traditional community fishing during Bhogali (Magh) Bihu has been prohibited in the wetlands of Kaziranga National Park following a Gauhati High Court directive. Kaziranga authorities, along with district and local officials, have informed residents about the ban, which applies strictly within the park and its wetlands, identified as vital fish breeding grounds.
Meanwhile, the Assam Fishery Department has directed all district commissioners to fix fish prices ahead of Magh Bihu and deploy monitoring teams in markets to ensure vendors follow approved rates and guidelines during the festive season.
