AIUDF Names Badruddin Ajmal for Rajya Sabha, Seeks Congress Support

The AIUDF on Friday announced its president Badruddin Ajmal as its candidate for an upcoming Rajya Sabha vacancy from Assam and sought the Congress party’s support. The terms of three Rajya Sabha members from Assam will end on April 9, with elections expected to be announced soon.

AIUDF leader Rafiqul Islam said the opposition has the numbers to win one of the three seats and urged Congress to back Ajmal, citing AIUDF’s past support to Congress candidates. He said Ajmal’s parliamentary experience would help raise Assam and Northeast issues effectively in the Rajya Sabha.
