Assam to Get Mobile Phone Manufacturing Unit, Proton Therapy Facility Planned

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said the state is set to enter electronics manufacturing, with a mobile phone manufacturing unit expected to be established soon. He said the initiative reflects the vision of “Made in India, Made in Assam” and will boost employment and industrial growth.

The Chief Minister also announced plans to install a ₹500-crore Proton Therapy machine as part of Assam’s cancer care grid. He said nine of the proposed 17 cancer hospitals in the state are already functional and the tender process for the Proton Therapy project has begun. Once operational, Assam would become the first state to offer Proton Therapy in the public healthcare system, strengthening advanced cancer treatment and medical tourism.
