Fresh Demand Raised for Gauhati High Court Bench in Barak Valley

A renewed demand has been made for setting up a Circuit or Permanent Bench of the Gauhati High Court in the Barak Valley, citing hardships faced by litigants and lawyers due to distance and poor connectivity with Guwahati. Senior advocate Dharmananda Deb of the Silchar Bar has submitted a representation to the Chief Justice of India, the Gauhati High Court and the Assam government, stressing that the absence of a bench restricts access to timely justice. He urged the state to revive the proposal, noting changed circumstances and citing successful High Court benches in other states.
