17 Detained After Poisoning Kills Over 50 Migratory Birds in Majuli

Majuli police and the Forest Department have detained 17 people, including four women, for poisoning and killing over 50 migratory birds on the river island. The main accused, Kalim Uddin of Barpeta, has been arrested. Officials recovered duck feathers and pesticides, indicating deliberate poisoning in farmlands across several villages. Eight injured birds were rescued and are being treated. Difficult terrain and poor access delayed operations, but investigations continue, with authorities promising intensified patrolling to prevent further incidents.
