India-EU FTA to Boost Tea Exports, but EU Norms Remain a Challenge

The Tea Association of India said the proposed India-EU Free Trade Agreement will enhance India’s export competitiveness, including in the tea sector, by improving market access and reducing tariffs. However, strict EU norms on residue limits, food safety, traceability and labelling remain key challenges. The FTA is expected to remove duties on small-pack green tea exports, benefiting Indian exporters. The association stressed the need for domestic support, especially for small producers, to meet compliance and certification requirements and fully leverage the agreement’s benefits.
