Guwahati Refinery Shifts to Imported Crude, Targets Net Zero by 2046

Guwahati Refinery now depends on imported crude for about 50% of its needs, as Assam’s crude output declines. Its capacity has grown to 1.2 MMTPA, with diesel forming the bulk of production. Refinery head Sunil Kanti said the sector must adapt to future fuel alternatives and announced a net zero emission target by 2046. He also highlighted water reuse achievements, tree plantation drives, and the refinery’s key role in supplying special kerosene oil to the Army during Operation Sindoor.
