Gaurav Gogoi Seeks Bharat Ratna for Zubeen Garg

Jorhat MP and Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging that Assam’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg be posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna. Gogoi said Garg’s death caused deep grief across Assam, the Northeast, and the country. He highlighted the singer’s immense contribution to music and culture, which took Assamese identity to national and global platforms. Gogoi noted that he has raised the demand earlier in Parliament and through letters to the Centre, adding that the public outpouring of emotion reflects Garg’s lasting cultural significance.
