CM Sarma Flags Security Concerns Over Gaurav Gogoi’s 2013 Pakistan Visit

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday claimed that Pakistan may have digitally recorded Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s 2013 visit, warning such material could be used for blackmail if Gogoi holds higher office in future. Citing findings of an SIT probe, Sarma said an “enemy nation” routinely maintains detailed surveillance records of visiting political figures.
He described Gogoi as being in a “vulnerable position” and raised questions over defence-related queries raised by the MP in Parliament after his return. Stating that the issue concerns national security and not politics, Sarma said the Assam government will forward the findings to the Ministry of Home Affairs and called for full transparency to put the matter to rest.
