Guwahati Court Bars Congress Leaders From Defamatory Remarks Against Assam CM

A Guwahati court has restrained Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi, Bhupesh Baghel and Jitendra Singh from making or publishing any defamatory statements against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The order follows a Rs 500 crore defamation suit filed by the Chief Minister.
The court issued an ad-interim injunction until the leaders appear in person on March 9. Notices were also sent to an Assamese daily linked to the allegations. Sarma has denied claims that he grabbed 12,000 bighas of land, calling them false and politically motivated, and has challenged the Congress to produce documentary proof.
