BJP Nears Candidate Finalisation for Assam Polls: CM Sarma

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the BJP has almost finalised candidates for around 80 Assembly seats in Assam, pending approval from the party’s central leadership. He confirmed that Bhupen Borah will be given a BJP ticket, with his name under consideration for Bihpuria and Ranganadi. Sarma dismissed reports of worker dissatisfaction over Borah’s induction.

The Chief Minister also said the Congress–AJP alliance is nearly finalised and claimed that rebel Congress MLAs Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, Basanta Das, and Sashi Kanta Das will soon join the BJP. He added that several Hindu leaders from Congress may join the BJP, while the Sonai MLA is set to join the AGP after leaving the AIUDF. Sarma, however, ruled out any possibility of Congress MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed joining the BJP.
