Congress–AJP Seat-Sharing Deal Finalised; Talks Continue with Other Allies

The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) on Tuesday confirmed that its seat-sharing agreement with the Congress has been finalised. Under the deal, AJP has been allotted nine Assembly constituencies, including Khowang, Barhampur, Binnakandi, Bajali, Dibrugarh, Sarupathar, Guwahati Central, Sadiya and Palashbari, with the possibility of one additional seat in Barak Valley.
AJP is also considering contesting either Dhemaji or Morigaon, while party president Lurinjyoti Gogoi is likely to contest from Khowang. Most candidates have been finalised, party sources said.
However, differences remain within the wider Opposition bloc, especially with Raijor Dal, which has sought Naoboicha and raised objections over a few seats. Talks with other allies are ongoing as the Opposition alliance continues negotiations amid internal tensions.
