Gauhati University Scientist Bags ISRO-Funded Research Project

A Jorhat-born academic from Gauhati University has secured an ISRO-funded research project, marking a significant achievement for Assam’s scientific community. Dr Arabinda Barua, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, has been awarded a two-year project worth Rs 28.7 lakh under the Human Space Flight Centre programme.

The research aims to develop a nanotechnology-based biosensing platform to monitor plant health in space station-compatible environments. The project will help astronauts assess crop growth and stress in real time, supporting future human space missions and space-based agriculture, while also benefiting smart farming technologies on Earth.
