Eviction Drive Clears 500 Bighas of Encroached Land at Mahmaradia Char

The district administration on Wednesday carried out a large eviction drive at Mahmaradia Char under Palasbari revenue circle in Kamrup district to clear alleged encroachments on government land. Around 500 bighas of land and nearly 100 houses were cleared using excavators, with standing crops removed. Officials said the drive is part of a phased effort to reclaim nearly 10,000 bighas of encroached land across char areas. Several encroachers reportedly vacated the area in advance, while local residents welcomed the action.
