AGP to Prioritise Young Candidates in 2026 Assam Polls: Keshab Mahanta

Senior AGP leader and Assam Cabinet Minister Keshab Mahanta on Thursday said the party will give priority to young and fresh candidates in the 2026 Assembly elections. He added that final decisions on candidature will be taken only after the NDA seat-sharing arrangement is finalised.
Mahanta said discussions are ongoing regarding senior leader Pradip Hazarika, especially after the dissolution of the Amguri constituency following delimitation. He noted that AGP is assessing prospects in Nazira and Sivasagar segments.
He also said seat-sharing talks within the NDA are progressing smoothly. On the proposed Mulagabharu Kshetra, Mahanta said the government will take the final decision on its location.
