ECI Pushes for Higher Voter Turnout in Assam Assembly Polls

Election commission of India

Assam is heading into the 2026 Assembly elections with a strong voter turnout record, and the Election Commission of India is aiming to improve it further.

The 2021 elections recorded an 81.8% turnout, and officials are now focusing on increasing participation, especially among young and first-time voters.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has urged citizens to treat voting as a “festival of democracy” and actively take part.

Under the SVEEP programme, awareness campaigns are being carried out across the state, led by Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel, to encourage voting in all regions, including remote and underserved areas.

With polling scheduled for April 9, authorities are intensifying efforts to ensure maximum voter participation alongside ongoing political campaigning.
