Fresh Bail Hearing Underway for NEIF Organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta

A special fast-track court on Wednesday began hearing the fresh bail plea of NEIF organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, one of the main accused in the death case involving Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. The bail plea of co-accused Siddharth Sharma was deferred after errors were found in the affidavit.
During the hearing, Mahanta’s lawyers argued for bail, while the prosecution opposed the plea and also discussed framing of charges. Outside the court, Mahanta’s wife claimed he was innocent and said the incident in Singapore was an accident, not murder. She also denied allegations related to a yacht party and said Mahanta was away in a meeting when the incident occurred.
