Assam Forest Officer Arrested in Rs 2 Lakh Bribery Trap

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, on Tuesday arrested Abinash Basumatary in Kokrajhar after he was allegedly caught accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh.
Officials said Basumatary had allegedly demanded Rs 9.75 lakh from a complainant for clearing pending bill payments. Acting on the complaint, the anti-corruption team laid a trap and caught him red-handed inside his office chamber in Suparighat.
A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further legal action is underway.
