The North East Zone of ICOMOS India has launched the “Historic City Series (2026–2028)” project to document and preserve heritage sites across seven cities and towns in the Northeast — Agartala, Guwahati, Hajo, Imphal, Jowai, Shillong and Tezpur.
The initiative will cover temples, mosques, churches, monuments, forests, caves and cultural traditions, including landmarks such as Kamakhya Temple, Ujjayanta Palace and Kangla Fort. Organisers said the project aims to boost heritage conservation, tourism and academic research in the region.
