Assam Targets Rs 10 Lakh Crore Economy by 2028: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday announced an ambitious goal to build a Rs 10 lakh crore economy by 2028, highlighting the NDA government’s development agenda and recent electoral success.

Speaking in the Assembly, Sarma said poverty in Assam has significantly reduced, with nearly 35% of people moving out of poverty. He expressed confidence that the state’s BPL population could drop to 2-3% within five years.

The Chief Minister also highlighted major industrial projects, including the semiconductor plant at Jagiroad, fertiliser unit at Namrup and thermal power project at Chapar. He further said Assam currently has 14 medical colleges, with 11 more planned.

Sarma also stressed the need to tackle illegal immigration, protect indigenous land rights and focus on the development of Karbi Anglong, Bodoland, Barak Valley and Dima Hasao.
