AASU Protests Across Assam Against Rising Fuel Prices and Inflation

The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Tuesday staged statewide protests against rising fuel prices and inflation, burning effigies of Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in several districts.

Demonstrations were held in Guwahati, Tamulpur, Biswanath, Bijni and Jorhat, where protesters raised slogans against the Centre and Assam governments over increasing petrol, diesel and essential commodity prices.

AASU leaders accused the government of failing to control inflation and demanded immediate steps to provide relief to the public. Brief scuffles and verbal altercations were also reported between protesters and police during some demonstrations.

The student body warned that the agitation would intensify if fuel prices and inflation continue to rise.
