Most Wanted Morikolong Dacoity Accused Killed in Nagaon Police Encounter

The prime accused in the Morikolong dacoity case, Moni alias Khairul Ali, was killed in a police encounter in Nagaon early Tuesday morning. Police said the accused opened fire during a raid at Barkundali Mikirpar after receiving inputs about another planned robbery.

A pistol, cartridges, machete, and iron rod were recovered from the spot, while other gang members escaped. No police personnel were injured.

Khairul Ali was wanted in the Morikolong dacoity case in which doctor Ranjit Saikia and his wife Ruprekha Bhuyan were brutally attacked during a robbery on April 24. Bhuyan later died from her injuries in a Guwahati hospital.

Police had already arrested several members of the gang and are continuing operations to trace the remaining accused.
