Assam Police Bust ULFA-I Funding Network, Arrest Two Men from Uttar Pradesh

United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent funding network faced a major crackdown after Assam Police arrested two men from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly raising funds for the banned militant outfit. The accused, Noor Mohammad from Saharanpur and Mohammad Subhan from Kanpur, were traced to a rented house in Unnao where they had reportedly been living under concealed identities for the past six months.

Police said the arrests were made during a joint operation involving Assam Police, local police, and surveillance teams. A case has been registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for allegedly channelling funds to ULFA-I. Investigators are now examining their local contacts and support network in Uttar Pradesh.

The arrests are part of a wider crackdown on ULFA-I’s alleged extortion and funding operations across multiple states. Assam Police recently arrested several suspects in Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, and Sivasagar in connection with extortion cases linked to the outfit. In another operation, one suspect was also arrested in Maharashtra for alleged involvement in the network.

Authorities said the investigations indicate that ULFA-I’s extortion and funding activities extend beyond Assam, prompting coordinated security operations across at least five states to dismantle the outfit’s financial network.
