Kaziranga’s Veteran Patrol Elephant Joymala Passes Away

Kaziranga: Joymala, one of Kaziranga National Park’s most celebrated patrol elephants, died after a prolonged illness, ending 34 years of dedicated service to wildlife conservation. Born in 1960, she joined the national park in 1992 and played a key role in anti-poaching patrols, wildlife monitoring and rescue operations.

Assam Forest Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah paid tribute to Joymala, calling her one of Kaziranga’s finest jungle warriors. The elephant, remembered worldwide for surviving the iconic 2004 tiger leap incident, was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour during her last rites in recognition of her exceptional contribution to protecting the park’s wildlife.
