Assam Assembly Passes Land Acquisition Amendment Bill

Guwahati, July 28: The Assam Legislative Assembly on Monday passed the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Assam Amendment) Bill, 2026, aimed at speeding up land acquisition for key infrastructure and development projects.

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Keshab Mahanta said the amendment will simplify procedures while ensuring only the minimum required land is acquired. The Assembly also passed the Assam GST (Amendment) Bill, 2026 and introduced four other Bills related to land, revenue, registration and stamp laws.
