Centre Rejects Fuel Adulteration Claims, Assures Strict Quality Monitoring

New Delhi: The Centre has dismissed social media claims of widespread fuel adulteration, stating that petrol and diesel supplied across India continue to undergo rigorous quality checks.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) regularly test fuel quality and have intensified monitoring with water ingress checks at over 87,000 fuel stations. More than 2,000 fuel samples were also tested for chloride and sulphide contamination, with only two cases of chloride contamination detected. Fuel sales at the affected outlets were immediately suspended, and the government warned of strict action against any outlet found supplying contaminated or adulterated fuel. It also urged the public not to rely on unverified social media posts.
