AITUC Holds Statewide Protests Against Centre’s Labour Policies

The AITUC Assam State Committee staged workplace protests across the state on Monday, opposing what it described as the Central government’s “anti-worker and anti-farmer policies.”

The protests were part of a nationwide programme called by central trade unions and farmers’ organisations. Due to the prevailing flood situation, AITUC Assam conducted the agitation mainly at workplaces.

AITUC general secretary Ramen Das alleged that the four new labour codes would weaken workers’ rights, including collective bargaining, strikes and union formation, while increasing employers’ powers. He also raised concerns over job losses and privatisation of government institutions.
