Assam Cabinet Approves Green Cess, Khel Maharan and Key Reforms

Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet has approved a Green Cess on polluting activities, including stone crushers, brick kilns, imported timber units, identified polluting industries and commercial groundwater extraction. The revenue will be used for environmental and infrastructure projects such as embankment works and solar power plants.
The Cabinet also approved Khel Maharan from November 1 to January 23, 2027, with a separate talent hunt for children below 12 years. The upper age limit for ex-servicemen applying for Grade III and IV government jobs was raised from 42 to 45 years, while the promotion period for computer operators was reduced from four to three years. Free bicycles for Class IX students and the restructuring of the Tax Department with 157 new statutory posts and four ITO posts were also approved.
