Madhuri to Return to Kolhapur Under Strict Welfare Conditions

Kolhapur: Elephant Madhuri, also known as Mahadevi, is set to return to Kolhapur following a September 9, 2026 order of the High-Powered Committee (HPC). She had been at Vantara in Jamnagar since July 2025 under earlier directions upheld by the Bombay High Court and Supreme Court.
The HPC has placed conditions on her return, including round-the-clock care, medical check-ups every fortnight and a ban on using her for processions. Vantara said it will continue supporting her care, with its veterinarians visiting Madhuri in Kolhapur every two weeks and assisting with the facility and medical requirements.
