Scenic Group Plans ₹750–800 Crore Investment in Brahmaputra, Ganga River Cruises

Guwahati: Global luxury cruise operator Scenic Group is planning to invest around ₹750–800 crore over the next decade to develop river cruising on the Ganga and Brahmaputra to international standards. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said the proposed partnership could strengthen India’s position in global river cruise tourism.

The announcement followed a meeting in New Delhi with a Scenic Group delegation led by founder and chairman Glen Moroney, along with Ashish Phookan, Managing Director of Assam Bengal Navigation. The proposed investment could boost tourism infrastructure along the Brahmaputra and create opportunities for businesses linked to hospitality, transport, handicrafts, food and cultural tourism.

Assam Bengal Navigation already operates luxury river cruises on the Brahmaputra and Ganga, including itineraries covering destinations such as Kaziranga and Majuli. The proposed collaboration could bring greater international exposure to Assam’s river tourism sector while supporting the wider inland-waterway economy.
