ISRO to Set Up Advanced Radar Research Facility in Assam

Chandrapur: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone for an advanced ISRO radar research facility at Chandrapur on Monday. The state government has provided around 200 bighas of land for the project, which will focus on atmospheric and weather-related research.

The facility is expected to strengthen scientific monitoring of rainfall, floods and other weather events. According to Sarma, ISRO Chairman Dr V. Narayanan has indicated that the first radar, aimed at cloud research, is expected to be established in February. The Assam government has also assured continued support for expansion of the project and sought ISRO’s cooperation in strengthening the state’s Science City.
