Flood-Affected People Stage Protest in Guwahati Seeking Compensation

Guwahati: Flood-affected residents from Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat staged a protest at Chachal on Wednesday, demanding adequate compensation and relief from the Assam government. Organised by the Raijor Dal, the demonstration saw participation from hundreds of affected people who alleged that they were yet to receive promised assistance months after the floods.

Protesters demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation for each affected family, saying the existing assistance was inadequate to rebuild their lives. Leaders of Raijor Dal and KMSS also called for pending relief payments to be released without delay. Police were deployed at several locations in Guwahati as the mass demonstration continued.
