Supreme Court Defers Shyamkanu Mahanta’s Bail Plea to November 4

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday deferred the bail plea of Shyamkanu Mahanta, an accused in the case related to the death of Assam cultural icon Zubeen Garg, to November 4. Mahanta, who is currently lodged in Baksa jail, will remain in custody as the fast-track trial continues.

The Assam government informed the court that 122 prosecution witnesses, including nine NRIs, have been examined so far. The court took note of the ongoing witness examination and trial progress. Mahanta is among seven accused in the case, with murder charges framed against four, including him.
