Nimisha Thakuria Death Case: Accused Injured in Police Firing

Guwahati: Ashik Ali, the main accused in the death of Gauhati University student Nimisha Thakuria, was injured in police firing at Dharapur early Tuesday after he allegedly attempted to escape from custody. He was taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment.

Ali had been in eight-day police custody and was scheduled to be produced before a court. Nimisha’s body was recovered from a Guwahati homestay on September 25. Police are investigating the circumstances of her death and are yet to verify Ali’s claim that she died by suicide. The investigation is ongoing.
