Himanta Biswa Sarma Visits Himashree Boro’s Family, Seeks Thorough Probe

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday visited the family of 20-year-old Himashree Boro at Chapaidong in Guwahati, five days after her body was recovered in Andhra Pradesh. He said he had written to the Union Railway Minister and the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister seeking a proper investigation. An Assam Police IGP has also been sent to Andhra Pradesh to assist in advancing the probe.

Boro, a student of B Borooah College, went missing while returning from Visakhapatnam to Assam aboard the Vivek Express on October 6. Her body was later recovered near railway tracks in Srikakulam district, prompting widespread demands for justice. Andhra Pradesh Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT), while AASU organised candlelight processions across Assam demanding accountability and stronger measures for women’s safety. The circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.
