Guwahati Police Conducts 10 Anti-Drug Awareness Programmes Across Educational Institutions

Guwahati, October 14, 2026: Guwahati Police conducted 10 drug awareness programmes across educational institutions in the city on October 12 under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, aiming to educate students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and raise awareness about the legal provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

According to a post shared by the official Guwahati Police account on X (formerly Twitter), the awareness campaign was organised by the CGPD team in coordination with police station (PS) and outpost (OP) teams, along with staff members of the participating institutions.

The programmes were held at B. Barooah College, Cotton Collegiate HS School, Kamrup Academy HS School, Assam Engineering Institute in Chandmari, Zoo Road Vidyapith High School, Noonmati High School, Satgaon High School, Panbari High School, Rupnagar Vidyapith High School and Down Town University.

Senior police officers, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Central, joined the police teams and institutional staff during the initiative. The sessions focused on sensitising students to the adverse consequences of drug abuse and informing them about the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, which provides the legal framework for controlling and regulating narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in India.

By engaging directly with students, the initiative sought to promote awareness of substance abuse and encourage a more informed approach to preventing drug-related harm among young people.

Educational institutions remain important spaces for spreading awareness about the risks associated with drug abuse. Such outreach programmes can help students better understand the potential consequences of substance use and the importance of making informed decisions.

Emphasising the importance of awareness in preventing drug abuse, Guwahati Police stated in its post: “An informed generation is our strongest defence against drugs.”

The initiative reflects the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies and educational institutions in promoting drug awareness and supporting the broader objective of building a drug-free society.
