Guwahati Police Issue Safety Guidelines for Durga Puja Celebrations

Guwahati: Guwahati Police have issued strict safety and crowd-control guidelines for nearly 600 Durga Puja pandals across the city. Loudspeakers and high-volume sound systems will be prohibited after 10 PM, while cultural programmes must end by 9 PM. Puja committees have been directed to deploy trained volunteers and install functional CCTV cameras for round-the-clock surveillance.

Police will conduct plainclothes patrols, while organisers must arrange separate barricaded entry and exit routes for men and women. Authorities have also warned against drunk driving and public intoxication, made helmets mandatory for both riders and pillion passengers, and finalised special security arrangements at Pandu Ghat and Lachit Ghat for Durga Puja immersion processions.
