Akhil Gogoi to End Satyagraha After CM’s Assurance on Flood Compensation

Dispur: Sivasagar MLA and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi will call off his 14-day satyagraha at the Assam Legislative Assembly premises on Thursday following assurances from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding flood compensation for affected families in Upper Assam. Gogoi launched the protest on October 2, demanding pending compensation, an inquiry into the floods and repairs to damaged roads.
Gogoi said around 4,000 families in his constituency had received ₹15,000 each during the protest, while compensation for another 3,064 families had been sanctioned, with ₹4.60 crore approved for newly identified beneficiaries. The government has proposed an expert committee instead of a CBI inquiry into the floods. Gogoi said his primary objective was to ensure that all eligible flood-affected families receive their promised assistance without further delay.
