Removal of Bodo Inscription from Assam Assembly Sparks Outrage

Guwahati: The removal of the Bodo-language inscription from the Assam Legislative Assembly building has triggered strong resentment among Bodo leaders, who termed the move an insult to their linguistic rights, identity and dignity. ABSU president Kwrwmdao Wary and BKWAC Chief Executive Member Mihiniswar Basumatary condemned the decision, stressing that Bodo is included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution and recognised as an associate official language of Assam.
Bodo leaders have demanded a public clarification from Assembly Speaker Ranjit Dass, an apology and corrective measures to restore the inscription. They warned that overlooking the community’s identity could intensify demands for a separate Bodoland state and urged the authorities to ensure equal respect for all communities in Assam’s democratic institutions.
