Amit Shah Visits Kolkata Stampede Victims; Restrictions Imposed

Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday visited Calcutta Medical College and Hospital to meet those injured in a stampede at the Chorbagan Sarbojanin Durga Puja pandal. At least 19 people were killed and 25 injured in the incident on Saturday evening amid heavy rain and a surge in the crowd. Police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Following the tragedy, police imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS from October 18 to 20 in parts of the city to maintain law and order. The restrictions prohibit unlawful gatherings of five or more people, carrying dangerous weapons and activities that could disturb public tranquillity.
