Three Unidentified Wild Cat Cubs Spotted Near Charaideo Moidams in Assam

Charaideo, November 8, 2026: Three unidentified wild cat cubs were spotted near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Charaideo Moidams on Saturday, prompting the Assam Forest Department to increase surveillance. Forest Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said the animals could be tiger or leopard cubs, but their exact species is yet to be confirmed. Forest officials have visited the area to assess the situation and take necessary precautions.
The minister urged residents and tourists to maintain a safe distance, avoid approaching or chasing the animals, and report further sightings to forest authorities. He emphasised the importance of protecting wildlife while ensuring public safety around the historic Ahom burial site, which received UNESCO World Heritage status in 2024.
