AASU Demands Thorough Electoral Roll Revision and NRC Update in Assam

Assam: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has demanded a thorough revision of electoral rolls to remove the names of Bangladeshi nationals allegedly residing illegally in the state. AASU chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya said accurate voter lists are essential to protecting indigenous people’s rights and urged the Central and state governments to seek revision of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Bhattacharya also criticised the delay in implementing key recommendations under Clause 6 of the Assam Accord, particularly provisions concerning reservation of seats in legislative bodies and local authorities. He called for a tripartite meeting involving the Centre, the state government and AASU to discuss the pending recommendations.
