AASU Highlights Student Challenges Amid Agitations, Elections, and Calamities

Students face the worst disruptions during agitations, natural calamities, and government programs, AASU President Utpal Sarma said. He cited the Assam Agitation and ongoing Manipur violence as examples, where students lost valuable academic years. Sarma emphasized that only wealthy families can send their children elsewhere for studies, leaving many disadvantaged.

He criticized the use of educational institutions as election strong rooms and the involvement of teachers in non-academic duties like elections and government events. These actions severely disrupt academics, he noted.

Sarma proposed building dedicated shelter homes for flood relief to avoid using schools as relief camps, ensuring uninterrupted classes. AASU, he added, has since taken measures to minimize academic disruptions during protests, learning from past mistakes.
