ACMS Backs Nationwide General Strike on February 12

The Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) has extended full support to the nationwide general strike scheduled for February 12, called by trade unions against the Centre’s labour policies. The union has opposed the four labour codes enacted in 2020, alleging they weaken workers’ rights, social security, and workplace safety while favouring corporates.
ACMS has also raised concerns over the repeal of the Plantation Labour Act, 1951, saying it has reduced safeguards for tea garden workers. As part of the strike, tea garden workers across Assam will hold demonstrations in front of garden managers’ offices, demanding repeal of the labour codes, higher daily wages, settlement of wage agreements, ST status for the tea community and Adivasis, and land rights for the landless.
