ADB Approves ₹183-Crore Project to Tackle Guwahati’s Flood Problem

The Asian Development Bank has approved a ₹183-crore project by the Assam government to address Guwahati’s recurring floods. Based on a DPR by Dutch firm Royal Haskoning DHV, the plan includes enhancing the Bahini River’s capacity, diverting stormwater, constructing retention ponds, and improving drainage. The NDMA will provide an additional ₹200 crore for related works. The project is under final technical vetting by the Union Housing Ministry, with long-term drainage planning also underway.
