African Swine Fever Outbreak Declared at Naginijan Tea Estate in Assam
The Naginijan tea estate in Jorhat district, Assam, has been declared an epicentre for an African swine fever virus outbreak by the district administration after numerous pigs were found infected. The outbreak is concentrated in the number 9 line of the tea estate. Authorities warn that if not controlled promptly, the virus could spread further. To mitigate the spread, pig owners are prohibited from selling their animals within a 10-kilometre radius of the affected area. Veterinary teams have been deployed to Naginijan Tea Garden and other locations to administer preventive vaccines to the pigs.
