Monsoon Floods Devastate Assam, Claim Six Lives
As the monsoon season begins, devastating floods across Assam have claimed at least six lives, including two minors, on Friday. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reports that four rivers—Kopili, Barak, Katakhal, and Kushiyara—are flowing above the danger level, affecting 11 districts: Karbi Anglong, Dhemaji, Hojai, Cachar, Karimganj, Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Hailakandi, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong West, and Dima Hasao.
The floods have impacted 560 villages, with significant damage reported in Cachar (192 villages) and Karimganj (157 villages). Tragically, the floods have claimed the lives of six individuals: three in Cachar, including one minor; two in Hailakandi, including a minor; and one man in Karbi Anglong West.
